A research project titled “Firm Structures, and Research and Development” conducted by Eero Lehto (in collaboration with Olavi Lehtoranta of Statistics Finland) at the Labour Institute for Economic Research, and funded by Tekes, examines why, how, and to what extent corporate acquisitions are used as a mechanism for technology transfer.

The empirical analysis utilises a dataset of corporate acquisitions compiled for the study covering the years 1994–1999. The first part of the empirical investigation examines the impact of firms’ own research and development (R&D) activity on acquisitions and mergers.
