Unemployment — economic perspectives
Although more than ten years have passed since the great recession, as recently as 2004 there were still 229,000 Finns unemployed. For these 229,000 Finns, unemployment is an everyday personal problem that causes daily worry about livelihood and frequently leads to other social and health problems.
This collection of articles brings together recent economic research on the causes and consequences of unemployment. The authors have recently conducted empirical research on topics for which no comprehensive reports have previously been published. The authors are also researchers who have approached their research questions from a new perspective. As a result, the book contains articles on, among other things, the unemployment of immigrants, the effects of changes in unemployment security, the financial subsistence and mental wellbeing of the unemployed, and the impact of recent economic policy decisions on the unemployment of young people and older workers.
