The Fundamental Drivers of Economic Growth and Innovation – Productive Institutions
Abstract
In 2024, the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded for research into a question essential to human well-being: why do some countries succeed while others fail in creating prosperity? The prize was awarded to Daron Acemoğlu, Simon Johnson, and James Robinson. The greatest merit of their research lies in their search for the fundamental explanatory factors behind economic growth and prosperity. What factors explain the formation of institutions favorable to innovation and economic growth, as well as the differences in wealth between countries?
