Other Publications Milla Nyyssölä, Maria Järlström, Rebecca Piekkari, Tomi Seppälä

The purpose of this research project is to examine the effects of language skills, corporate language, and linguistic compatibility on career-related factors among members of four professional unions: the Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland (TEK), the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland (UIL), Driftingenjörsförbundet i Finland (DIFF), and the Vaasa Economists (VE). The Vaasa Economists belong to the Finnish Business School Graduates (SEFE). The results for UIL and DIFF are reported as a combined group. The union-specific results are presented in separate reports, while this report focuses on comparisons between the unions.

The study aims to analyse the relationship between language skills and the compatibility between the individual and the work environment. In particular, it examines language proficiency, linguistic compatibility, career mobility, career success, and work–life balance in both private- and public-sector organisations. (AI translation)
