How Do Innovations Affect Mergers and Acquisitions?

Working Papers 181 Eero Lehto, Olavi Lehtoranta

Preface

This project is ordered and funded by Tekes, the National Technology Agency. The aim of the study was to analyse the motives of mergers and acquisitions and empirically test whether mergers and acquisitions were used as means to transfer technology. The report was written by Eero Lehto from Labour Institute for Economic Research and Olavi Lehtoranta from Statistics Finland. We are grateful for the contribution of Markus Koskenlinna and Ari Mikkelä who supervised the work at Tekes. We would also like to thank Reija Lilja from Labour Institute for Economic Research for her comments.

The innovation data set for this study was provided by VTT, Group for Technology. In this project we also exerted an extra effort to gather the data on mergers and acquisitions. The rest of the data set was obtained from Statistics Finland. We are grateful to Paul Dillinghan for checking the English language.
