Does changing jobs improve your pay?
Statistics Finland’s earnings index data on the development of employee wages are useful, but they do not tell the whole story about wages. Wages develop differently not only across different sectors but also among different groups of employees. In what follows, we divide employees into those who continue in the same job with the same employer, those who have changed employer, and those who have changed job role but not employer, and examine the wage development of these different groups. Through these comparisons we can see whether the wages of employees in different sectors improve by changing employer or job role. The analysis also reveals which change is more beneficial for the employee.
