Competitiveness and export success

The study examines the growth trajectory of the Finnish national economy in relation to other Western countries.

Finland’s economic growth was slower than the OECD average in the 1960s, and even during the period 1968–1976 growth only narrowly exceeded the OECD average (3.1% vs. 2.9%). After this, the trend turned clearly more favourable: annual growth in total output has been approximately half a percentage point faster than the OECD average, and both the growth and stability of the Finnish economy have generally improved relative to other Western European countries.
